SOME exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. We meet the immediate daily needs of the people we serve with food, clothing, and health care. We help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness.
Today, we are the only interfaith organization in the District that offers as comprehensive and holistic approach to caring for the homeless and extremely poor residents of our city. SOME is still best known for food, serving more than 1,000 meals a day, but we also provide programs that meet a full spectrum of needs, all the while giving a sense of dignity to everyone who comes through our doors every day. SOME’s integrated service model allows us to develop partnerships with the men and women we serve that keep them moving forward on a path out of poverty.
SOME began 40 years ago with the simple but critical mission of caring for the most destitute among us. We quickly realized, that too many of our residents needed more than just a hot meal, they needed a host of services to help them break the tragic cycle of poverty and homelessness. Over the years, our mission has remained the same, but our services have broadened significantly.
