Leadership Statement:

We are a unique organization in that hospitals across the country are struggling to support the emotional and spiritual needs of their patients. When funding cuts are made, this is usually the first area to be cut. When adults have cancer, they can clearly articulate that they are emotionally suffering. They speak with friends, their loved ones, their clergy. When children are in this situation, it is an very different picture. They often do not know who to turn to. They feel afraid and alone. Their often hide their feeling of fear and anxiety from their parents in an attempt to protect them. Therefore, they are left without resources. The parents of these children just want their children to get better. Their priority is often not on their children's emotional well being but on their survival. I know how this feels. I lost a child to cancer. However, cancer can rob children of so much. They need properly trained resources to help them through the experiences. Pediatric psychologists, Child Life Specialists, Social Workers, and Pastors can make a tremendous difference in the experience. It can even make a difference in the outcome.

Striving for More is here to speak for the children who don't realize that they need it and the parents who are too focus on keeping their children alive. Please help us raise money to fund these important programs and make sure they are delivered in a high quality manner.
