Impact Summary from the Nonprofit

Solutions of North Texas is so much more than a Sober House, we are a process of continuous care designed to teaching men & women suffering from addiction to stand on their own two feet, become financially self-sufficient, reunite families, and strengthen our entire community. This can and will work for anyone who has indicated a willingness to make a permanent change in their lives and follow our clear-cut directions. We have made this all available at a price point affordable to anyone willing to work a minimum wage job.

Making our stand to effect change in early 2006, the simple pilot program we named Solutions of North Texas has quickly grown to become a staple of human services within North Texas. Gaining support from our community as well as many surrounding communities as far away as Oklahoma we have started to catch the eye of those seeking a more cost effective and sustainable method to battle addictions.

Solutions of North Texas works only with men and women who are aware of their addiction and have indicated a willingness and desire to make a permanent change in their lives. At this point the most desperate addict can be helped through intensive direction and accountability. Each individual is then assessed, aided in obtaining gainful employment, and guided toward financial accountability and independence. They are taught to pay their own way with money that they earn. A two-fold system meets all their needs and long-term recovery. Residents are taught how to stay sober permanently and how to live as happy independent adults. This is the ultimate goal of our residential program.

Solutions of North Texas uses a 12-step model of recovery with specially selected advocates for our residents. Residents are introduced to a back-to-basics recovery community and solution-based support groups. Trained house managers aid in this process by teaching them basic life skills. Staff and sponsors hold them accountable when they are selfish, manipulative, judgmental, or resentful. At the same time, they build their self worth by providing encouragement, support, leadership and guidance.

Leadership Statement:

In 1994 I was lost. Alcohol and drugs ruled my life; leaving no room for anything or anyone, especially God. On March 20, 1995 I entered into a 12 step program and although I remained free of alcohol and drugs during the first 2 years I found no real relief. I was at my jumping off point. In 1997 I was finally introduced to a man who emphasized the simple fact that if I did not find God, I would never find freedom. The entire 12 step program is designed to bring us close to God and do His work, bringing others to Him. For 2 years I had taken no such action, sitting in meeting after meeting only discussing the problem and never the solution.

After working a 12-step program of action, I have spent much of my free time carrying this message of hope to thousands of men and women residing in jails, treatment centers, hospitals, and at various 12-step meetings. I have seen the eyes of many people light up after hearing the truth; who in turn sought God’s grace. This is an incredible experience. Unfortunately most alcoholics and drug addicts will never hear this simple truth.

I want to make a difference. Solutions of North Texas will provide a safe and structured environment holding each person accountable, insisting upon complete compliance with a strict code of conduct including an aggressive role in a 12 step program. We provide community service opportunities, 12 step book studies, and positive speaker meetings.

Sincerely,

Scott Wisenbaker, Executive Director

Program Description:

Along with this model, they are offered outside counseling as well. Residents are given the opportunity to choose a counselor from a list of providers that offer services to Solutions, at no extra cost to the resident.

Our monthly fee meets their every need including housing, utilities, training, support groups, life skills, financial planning, doctor visits, meals and much more. Most importantly, residents can easily pay their fee working a minimum wage job. This keeps the cost of living within their reach and thereby placing financial reliance upon no one other than themselves. Self worth and self reliance are huge factors for successful reintegration.
