What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Monday Night Critique Session
MNCS is our core play development program. WTP member playwrights may submit an excerpt of their work to be read by professional actors and critiqued in a moderated session. The feedback is provided by all who attend, both WTP members and affiliate artists. Held on the first and third Monday of each month in the Little 5 Points Community Center, these sessions are free and open to theatre artists.
The Table Series
This Series gives members the opportunity to work with a dramaturg on their new play, experience it read by our Actor’s Ensemble with a moderated feedback session afterward. In addition, this program gives attending WTP members the unique opportunity to get inside the development process by welcoming them into a rehearsal..
The Table Series does not culminate in a finished product, but in a new stage of process: opening up the text to artists with fresh perspectives and the questions of a professional cast. We are excited to offer our members this exclusive access to what actually happens within new play development spaces.
The First LIght Series
The First Light Series offers WTP playwrights the opportunity to see a public reading of their new full-length play complete with marketing, a reading in a professional venue, and a moderated feedback session.
Prior to the reading, the director/dramaturg works with the playwright to continue developing the play before it is performed in front of an audience. This is a development opportunity, not a showcase for a finished product.
The Ethel Woolson Lab
The Ethel Woolson Lab is an annual, competitive workshop series named in honor of a generous benefactor of WTP.
Launched in 2009 by Jill Patrick (Managing Artistic Director of WTP from 2006-2016), up to three plays by WTP member playwrights are selected each year to participate in the EWL. Each recipient is given a 29-hour developmental workshop, culminating in a rehearsed, staged reading for the public. Each selected playwright is partnered with a support team of artists designed for the needs of the play. All readings take place in the Alliance theatre 3rd Floor Black Box.
The EWL is Working Title Playwrights MOST in-depth and competitive development opportunity. Because the EWL is an intensive process, we ask that the playwright take time off to spend the week dedicated to the script. WTP is proud to announce the we have included a stipend of $350 for the recipient playwright beginning in 2019, marking the 10-year anniversary of the Ethel Woolson Lab. The submissions will be vetted by a panel of professional theatre artists whose names will be posted when the recipients of the 2020 Season are announced.
