Program Description:
<div><strong>In the first 5 years of our Safe Program, ICA rescued 145 girls from sex trafficking through our Safe Homes and 114 girls through our Mercy Chapel Vocational Training Center.</strong></div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>Ethiopia Safe Homes for Victims of Sex Trafficking: </strong>In December 2006, ICA began our “Safe Campaign” by rescuing our first girl from the red light district. In March 2007, ICA opened our first home for young girls we rescued from sex trafficking in the red light areas of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. ICA now operates multiple Safe Homes internationally. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Once they are rescued and taken to their new home, they receive food, shelter, emotional and spiritual counseling, schooling, vocational training, medical care and a spending allowance. The girls range from 9 to 25 years old.</div><strong>
<div><br />Ethiopia Mercy Chapel & Vocational Training Center: </strong>ICA bought property which was once used as a brothel in the red light district of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Mercy Chapel is being used as a church, counseling center and vocational training center for the tens of thousands of young girls forced to sell their bodies every day just to survive. In 2010, 44 girls received the trainings and in 2011, 70 girls. ICA is now working with the graduates to develop their small businesses. </div><strong>
<div><br />Cambodia: </strong>ICA also had a Safe Home in Cambodia from 2007-2009 providing aftercare to 27 little girls ages 4-14 years old who were rescued from sex trafficking.</div>
<div><strong><br />United States Safe Home for Victims of Sex Trafficking: </strong>In October 2008, ICA met with federal law enforcement to discuss sex trafficking in the United States. As a result of these meetings and learning over 300,000 American children are at risk of being trafficked for sexual exploitation <em>(U.S. Dept. of State)</em>, ICA decided to open Safe Homes in the U.S. ICA has since been working to open our first U.S. Safe Home in St. Louis, MO. The home has been secured and most of the funds raised. ICA only needs approximately $100,000 more to meet the annual operating budget in order to open the home. The first U.S. home will consist of 6-8 beds and incorporate a complete holistic approach of rehabilitation for girls ages 17-24 years old. ICA is working closely with federal and local law enforcement officials for the identification and placement of these girls. Once the first home is operational and going well, ICA plans to next begin working on a Safe Home for American minors (under 17 years old).</div>

Program Description:
<div><strong>Nutritional Feeding Programs Ethiopia</strong> <br />ICA has been distributing food to the most severely malnourished families of <strong>Ethiopia</strong> since 2003. ICA has fed over 624,833 people targeting severely malnourished children and their families and distributed over 24,925,320 meals equating to 2,134,497 pounds of food to the people.</div>
<div><strong><br />Feeding Programs Afghanistan</strong></div>
<div>ICA began work in the refugee camps of war-torn and politically ravaged <strong>Afghanistan</strong> in November 2001. Since that time, we have partnered with other organizations to feed thousands of Afghan families, delivering many hundreds of tons of wheat, rice, beans, cooking oil, and other resources to people in remote areas where no other type of assistance is available. These areas are considered dangerous and/or “high risk” by the Afghan government. Therefore, other groups are reluctant to serve in this region. We continue to focus our feeding programs on the orphans, elderly, widows and handicapped. ICA has fed an estimated 330,000 Afghans since Nov 2001. </div>
<div><strong><br />Ethiopia Agricultural Projects: </strong></div>
<div>ICA began our first major agricultural project in 2010 by planting more than 2,000 seedlings of fruit trees and other native trees on our hospital grounds. When we harvest the fruit, it will be used for the hospital and the community. Two acres of wheat were also grown to be used for seed production. Approximately 100 farmers were given the high quality seeds to plant. They are expected to keep a certain percentage of their harvest for seed, give a percentage to other poor farmers for planting, and sell the balance in local markets to make a small profit. The second crop planted in early 2011 was potatoes. We employed over 200 farmers for a period to prepare the land and plant the crops. We will begin planting red onions in early 2012. Additionally ICA plans to use drip-irrigation on 12.5 acres of land adjacent to the hospital construction land for growing different specialized seeds to be distributed to farmers of the project area for further cultivation.</div>

<div><strong>Horn of Africa Famine Response in Somalia: </strong>
<div>ICA began responding to the ongoing famine in the Horn of Africa in 2011. We have been able to get into Somalia and found several areas where refugees are trying to survive on their own. These people are receiving no assistance from anyone. In the last quarter of 2011, ICA drove for hours on dry river beds and game trails to reach three isolated villages. ICA gave each family enough food for 6-7 weeks. Based on the success of the first distribution in Somalia, ICA began a six-month emergency feeding program in the northwest part of Somalia (called Somaliland) in December 2011. This feeding program is designed to get families over the peak of the famine. There are 600 families (approximately 4,000 people) receiving aid during these initial six-months.</div></div>

<div><strong>Girls’ Schools Afghanistan</strong>
<div>ICA was able to overcome the resistance of Muslim fundamentalist leaders in Afghanistan and since 2005 has provided funds to support three girls’ schools. The girls’ schools are located in province southwest of Kabul, Afghanistan. Approximately 350 students attend three different schools in this extreme fundamentalist area. ICA provided many additional supplies, such as whiteboards and markers, erasers, pens and pencils, notebooks and rugs for classroom floors on which the students sit. ICA also provided a small monetary gift to each teacher. </div></div>
<div><br />In February 2008 ICA and its partner International Crisis Relief refurbished a school in the Muhmandara district, northeast of Jalabad. The school is used daily by 2,000 students. Prior to the renovation the school was operational even though it had broken windows, needing a fresh coat of paint and other essentials to properly run a school.
<div> </div></div>
<div><strong>Orphanage South Korea</strong>
<div>In partnership with a South Korean ministry, ICA helped build an orphanage housing 100 children in 2005. </div></div>
