Mission Statement

International Crisis Aid's mission is to assist in sustaining life, bring encouragement to those suffering and collaborate with other relief organizations to bring necessary foods, materials and medicines to people in times of crisis, particularly where life and death situations exist. Additionally, we attempt to bring public awareness to these situations and to solicit citizen involvement whenever and wherever possible. All assistance and resources are traditionally secured in the country of need when possible, so as to develop relations with the local business people and foster a true spirit of cooperation. To accomplish this vision we will continue to target our efforts in "no-go zones" where other organizations cannot or will not go. Frequently this means taking on escalated risks. We feel that these risks are a small price to pay in a game where the stakes are so high: literally, life and death.

ICA only needs approximately $100,000 more to meet the annual operating budget in order to open the home. The first U.S. home will consist of 6-8 beds and incorporate a complete holistic approach of rehabilitation for girls ages 17-24 years old. ICA is working closely with federal and local law enforcement officials for the identification and placement of these girls. Once the first home is operational and going well, ICA plans to next begin working on a Safe Home for American minors (under 17 years old).

Program Description:

Nutritional Feeding Programs Ethiopia
ICA has been distributing food to the most severely malnourished families of Ethiopia since 2003. ICA has fed over 624,833 people targeting severely malnourished children and their families and distributed over 24,925,320 meals equating to 2,134,497 pounds of food to the people.

Feeding Programs Afghanistan

ICA began work in the refugee camps of war-torn and politically ravaged Afghanistan in November 2001. Since that time, we have partnered with other organizations to feed thousands of Afghan families, delivering many hundreds of tons of wheat, rice, beans, cooking oil, and other resources to people in remote areas where no other type of assistance is available. These areas are considered dangerous and/or “high risk” by the Afghan government. Therefore, other groups are reluctant to serve in this region. We continue to focus our feeding programs on the orphans, elderly, widows and handicapped. ICA has fed an estimated 330,000 Afghans since Nov 2001.

Ethiopia Agricultural Projects:

ICA began our first major agricultural project in 2010 by planting more than 2,000 seedlings of fruit trees and other native trees on our hospital grounds. When we harvest the fruit, it will be used for the hospital and the community. Two acres of wheat were also grown to be used for seed production. Approximately 100 farmers were given the high quality seeds to plant. They are expected to keep a certain percentage of their harvest for seed, give a percentage to other poor farmers for planting, and sell the balance in local markets to make a small profit. The second crop planted in early 2011 was potatoes. We employed over 200 farmers for a period to prepare the land and plant the crops. We will begin planting red onions in early 2012. Additionally ICA plans to use drip-irrigation on 12.5 acres of land adjacent to the hospital construction land for growing different specialized seeds to be distributed to farmers of the project area for further cultivation.

Horn of Africa Famine Response in Somalia:
ICA began responding to the ongoing famine in the Horn of Africa in 2011. We have been able to get into Somalia and found several areas where refugees are trying to survive on their own. These people are receiving no assistance from anyone. In the last quarter of 2011, ICA drove for hours on dry river beds and game trails to reach three isolated villages. ICA gave each family enough food for 6-7 weeks. Based on the success of the first distribution in Somalia, ICA began a six-month emergency feeding program in the northwest part of Somalia (called Somaliland) in December 2011. This feeding program is designed to get families over the peak of the famine. There are 600 families (approximately 4,000 people) receiving aid during these initial six-months.
