The San Diego Animal Support Foundation acts as an umbrella organization to help more than 30 underfunded local shelters and rescue agencies. Unlike any other organization, the foundation promotes the adoption of animals from ALL the rescues and shelters who need us...many of whom cannot afford the luxury of a publicity department or PR person. This is done at NO EXPENSE to the local organizations. We use daily television segments and our relationship with the local media to promote events, as well as proper pet care, seasonal issues, and events. Twice a year, the Foundation hosts two events, "Big Dogs Rock" and "Cupids & Canines" which bring the local agencies together for adoption events featurning more than 100 adoptable dogs and dozens of legitimate agencies in one place! Due to the lack of available spay/neuter services, the foundation also pays for spay/neuters for organizations and individuals who cannot afford to have their pets altered. We also have an emergency medical fund to help pets in need. In the Wildfires of October 2007, the Foundation brought thousands and thousands of people together from across the nation to help save animals and livestock affected by the fires. For 5 days, a 24-hour line was maintained bringing together fire victims in need, transportation volunteers, & people who were willing to provide boarding. In 2009, the Foundation answered the cry of deployed San Diego based Marines to bring back four young dogs from Afghanistan that would have been killed if left behind. A separate fund for this mission was maintained, and 100% of the donations were spent on bringing the dogs home.
