Fabretto enables impoverished Nicaraguan children and their families in underserved communities to break the cycle of poverty and reach their full potential through programs promoting nutrition, health, education, community and character development.
In 2009, Fabretto serves over 6,500 children from 5 Fabretto owned centers and 32 primary schools. Approximately half of our students live in remote rural areas. Many of our students come from families where the daily average household income is less than $1/day, qualifying as extremely poor by world standards.
The organization was started in1952 in Nicaragua by a Salesian missionary, Fr. Rafael Maria Fabretto. More than 50 years later, Fabretto's staff strives to live up to his legacy. We remain staunchly apolotical as we focus on helping the communities we serve grow and prosper through the education of the children and assisting parents and local leaders to start new micro-business and implement community infrastructure improvements.
