Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
MCH works closely with our members and allies to generate support and investments in housing and services to prevent and end homelessness. MCH works to advance a policy agenda focused on solutions that address the need for housing across the continuum, from emergency housing solutions to bold investments in building and preserving homes across Minnesota. We envision a Minnesota where everyone has a safe & dignified home.
Community Engagement and Organizing:
MCH’s community engagement extends to all areas of the state in order to build public awareness, inform interested parties and influence perceptions on both the causes and realities of homelessness and housing instability in Minnesota. To be successful, having an effective and credible statewide voice is a priority and engaging communities is critical to achieving genuine support. Statewide support is crucial to garnering the support of policymakers that result in policy change at the legislature. A growing focus of our work is centering the voices of people most impacted by homelessness and housing instability. MCH is the facilitator and convener of the Regional Expert Network. In this role, MCH partners with organizations and Experts (people with lived experience of homelessness or housing instability) to integrate their voices and influence at the decision-making table in policy advocacy, philanthropy, and the 7-County Homeless Response System. MCH is expanding this work by growing the network from six organizations to twelve.
Communications:
MCH’s communications department plays a key role in our success by creating and disseminating critical information on an array of platforms to diverse audiences including advocates, philanthropists, lawmakers, general supporters, coalition members, individuals with lived experience and the media. This work results in statewide legislative engagement, support and action. MCH works to amplify the stories of people with lived experience resulting in compelling narratives to shift the public understanding of homelessness and housing instability. MCH’s social media presence is significant, with about 16,000 people who subscribe to our content and an additional 9,000 receiving newsletters and advocacy action alerts.
Policy & Systems Change:
MCH’s public policy initiatives are vital to the overall success of our advocacy efforts and to create systems change. MCH engages in a year-round legislative agenda setting process that includes input from various stakeholders including people with lived experience, direct service providers, member organizations, key allies and based in data and research. MCH uses a team approach to gather input and insight to identify systems change and policy change priorities--bringing a depth of understanding across the organization to inform our engagement efforts and communications approaches.
