The FBI considers rape the second-most violent crime, trailing only murder. Every two minutes, another American is sexually assaulted. In 2006, there were 272,350 victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assault. This means 1 in 6 women - and 1 in 33 men - are victims of sexual assault - 20 million Americans in all. As the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization, RAINN's mission is to eradicate sexual assault in the U.S. by improving services to victims, educating the public about sexual assault, leading national efforts to prevent sexual assault, and ensuring that rapists are brought to justice.
