Save the Chimps, Inc. Program Overview

Program Description:
The primary goal of Save the Chimps, Inc. is to care for the 285 chimpanzees, which have been rescued from poor living conditions, and placed in one of the nurturing sanctuaries owned and operated by Save the Chimps, Inc. Although the current and very time-consuming goal is to continue to improve the lives of the current chimpanzees cared for by Save the Chimps, Inc. it does consider and accept other chimpanzees from time to time. However, it is the policy of Save the Chimps, Inc. to never accept a chimpanzee if the previous owner will simply replace the retired chimpanzee with another one. Chimpanzees can live up to fifty years in captivity and thus, Save the Chimps must continue to exist indefinitely. The long life span of chimpanzees is often the reason many chimps are sold to abusive owners. They are simply too expensive to care for. Our sanctuaries now provide their permanent retirement home and its goal is to eventually migrate all chimpanzees remaining at the New Mexico sanctuary to their permanent retirement home in Florida. The great majority of our funds are used for chimpanzee care.
Program Long-Term Success:
Save the Chimps, Inc., as the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in the world, continued to provide compassionate care within socially enriched environments to its 285 rescued chimpanzees at its 200-acre sanctuary in Ft. Pierce, Florida and 47-acre sanctuary in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
