CEO/Executive Director Statement:
As the President of Bake Me Home, and the mother of our Co-Founders, I am obviously very passionate about our organization. What started out as just encouraging my daughters' idea has grown into a full-time volunteer position for me. I am touched constantly by the opportunities we are given to impact the lives of other moms and kids who are struggling. Other the raising my girls, it's the most rewarding job I have ever had. I also feel blessed that Bake Me Home has given us a venue for others to come and volunteer, particularly young children. I feel strongly that people of all ages can, and should, help others in their community. I'm honored that we provide a place for kids as young as four to start learning that lesson. The support that we receive from volunteers in our community means the world to me. With no paid staff members, we certainly couldn't do this alone!

Program Description:
Our Tote Bag Program provides "Bake Me Home Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix," baking supplies, toothbrushes & toothpaste, a family cookbook, and a Kroger Grocery Store gift card to families from many local agencies. We serve homeless and battered women's shelters, a transitional family housing center, and two local food pantries. The purpose this program is to provide struggling families with a fun shared experience, as well as some grocery money.
Program Long-Term Success:
Our hope is that our Tote Bag Program will accomplish the following things:
- Allow struggling families to know that members of their community (although strangers) care about them.
- To help members of our community, particularly children, become involved in volunteering, therfore becoming life-long volunteers.
Program Short-Term Success:
- To help struggling parents share a joyful moment baking with their children.
- To provide disadvantaged members of our community with baking supplies they can continue to use beyond their initial cookie baking.
- To provide a fun, educational atmosphere for children as young as four to volunteer.
Program Success Monitored by:
The success of our Tote Bag Program is largely monitored by the number of bags we are able to distribute per bag, the cost per bag, as well as the number of agencies we serve. We currently serve six agencies, and distributed 222 Tote Bags during our last fiscal year. Due to the population we serve, and the method of distribution (bags are given to agencies to hand out), we do not have direct contact with every family. We rely heavily on feedback from the agency administrators and case managers for feedback regarding our program.
Program Success Examples:
The perfect example of the success of our program comes in a quote from one of the shelter moms who received a Tote Bag from us...
"The cookies were great! We had everything we needed and I've even used my pan lots of times since then. I really felt like I accomplished something with my daughter."

Family Portrait Program
- Budget:
-
$2,000
- Category:
-
Human Services
- Population Served:
-
Single Parents
-
Homeless
-
Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)
Program Description:
Our Family Portrait Program provides 5x7 portraits on the spot to shelter families! We own all of our photography equipment and printer and receive donated 5x7 picture frames. We work with volunteers and professional photographers to take portriats of families living in homeless and battered women's shelters.
Program Long-Term Success:
Our hope is that our Family Portrait Program is providing life-long momentos, and preserving childhood memories, for families who may not be able to afford a professional portrait.
Program Short-Term Success:
We are able to provide immediate portraits to shelters families, many of whom do not own a single picture of their child.
Program Success Monitored by:
We monitor the success of this program by the number of portraits that we take per year. During our last fiscal year we provided 55 families with portraits. With the addition of our own equipment this year we hope to continue to increase the number.
Program Success Examples:
The best example of our program successs is in a quote from one of our battered women's shelter moms who received a portrait...
"Thank you for this. A picture is worth a thousand words. I will always look at this and remember our turning point. I am free."
