Mission Statement

In 1974, the festival's founders recognized an underserved niche in Vermont's cultural landscape. Struck by the similarity of Vermont's beauty to that of Mozart's Austria, they were inspired to create a music festival in the European model: a series of interrelated classical events in a variety of gorgeous settings. Since its first season, the Vermont Mozart Festival has been dedicated to enriching people's lives through beautiful music in special Vermont places. The festival hosts approximately 20 concerts in more than ten scenic and historic locations each year.

Impact Statement

The festival’s goals for each season include: to serve as a premier musical resource and tradition in Vermont by bringing high-quality musical performers to the area; to provide musical arts to and create cultural opportunities for as many people as possible in Vermont by choosing venues in communities traditionally underserved by the arts, and by providing lower-cost ticket prices at certain concerts; and to be a vital and contributing member of the Vermont community by donating festival tickets to local non-profits and area youth.

Program Description:

The festival has consistently been named by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce as one of Vermont's Top Ten Summer Events, and is regarded by its attendees - more than 16,000 each year - as one of their favorite summer rituals. The Vermont Mozart Festival believes that musical events are valuable elements of any community, offering cultural and creative experiences to listeners of all ages. Our family series concerts offer educational programming for children, while our regular season's intelligent classical programming offers sophisticated enjoyment for all. Our average audience member has a history with us spanning more than a decade and they often say that the few hours of our performances are the highlight of their year. Prior to concert, patrons spread picnic blankets and lawn chairs on the grass, relaxing as they socialize with their friends and family. While sunset falls across a scenic vista, world-renowned performers bring classical masterpieces to life.

Program Long-Term Success:

The Vermont Mozart Festival successfully hosted 22 performances for an audience of more than 16,000 people.
