Mission Statement

EV's mission is to transform lives, fostering service, community, spirit and a belief in the ability to achieve. We engage at-risk youth and university student volunteers in mutually enriching relationships through long-term, multi-year one-on-one tutoring, supported by family advocacy and school partnerships, and a life-changing camp experience. Our goal is to create a more just, tolerant and empathetic world.

Impact Statement

Over the last five years, 94% of EVkids continued with our Afterschool Program from one year to the next and 93% of our seniors graduated from high school in four years and matriculated into college.  EVkids stay with the program for a 5 year average of 6.1 years.  EVcorps student volunteers average 36 months in service with EV.  Many of these EVcorps alumni, shaped by the work they have done with EV have gone on to careers in public and human service professions as urban educators, civil rights attorneys and elected public officials.

Passing the Torch

Eric Thompson has been elected as EV's second President, following in the footsteps of his dad, founder and president from 1980 to 2009. Eric was an EV Camp counselor for 9 years and has been active on the Board of Directors for a number of years, taking a leading role in special events.
Search for an interim Executive Director

The Board has begun a search for an interim Executive Director to transition from our long-term pro bono ED, Marie-Claude Thompson, to a full-time paid ED and move EV forward in the years ahead, including replication elsewhere of our outstanding Tutoring and Mentoring Program.
