Impact Statement

We are unique in that SpiritHorse and its 48 licensed centers are the only centers in America that provide all private equine-assisted healthcare services free of charge to people with disabilities, and/or abuse histories. We currently serve over 400 children and adults FREE OF CHARGE at our center in Corinth, Texas.  We have facilitated the founding of 55 SpiritHorse Centers worldwide that serve an additional 3,500 children each week. Two hundred of our children have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Studies by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, have shown that the results of intervention with our award-winning methods have met the "Gold Standard" of statistical analysis: "Significant". The last study showed that after 10 weeks intervention, 9 children measured "non-autistic". The link to the peer-reviewed journal that published teh University of Texas Southwest Medical Center study is:   http://www.pagegangster.com/p/JcUCQ/_.
We have heard 85 children speak their first words... seen 55children take their first steps... and seen 45 children sit up for the first time.

Here at SpiritHorse, the annual cost per rider is only $1,200 compared to a typical U.S. industry cost of $5,500. This is in spite of the fact that all of our sessions are the most expensive, private one-on-one. SpiritHorse is the only large center in the U.S. that offers all lessons FREE OF CHARGE.  Although funds are acquired through grants from foundations and corporations, we depend on support from you! There are several ways that you can help: Cash Donations, Buy-a-Brick, Shop for Groceries, Shop or Search Online, Sponsor a Rider, or Adopt-a-Horse.  If you are interested in any of these ways to help, please visit our website. http://www.spirithorsetherapy.com

Charles Fletcher has over 50 years experience in training and successfully showing all types of horses in almost every discipline. He has trained and shown American Saddle (five gaited) horses, fine harness horses, Standardbred horses to sulkies, and thoroughbred hunters and jumpers. He has instructed riders for over 40 years. He is a certified North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NAHRA) instructor in both riding and carriage driving. He has five years experience in recreational therapy and has pioneered Equine-Assisted Healthcare with seven years practice and has personally taught over 15,000 lessons. He is a NARHA Driving Clinician and conducts free carriage driving clinics for riding instructors from around the world. He is nationally recognized for his contributions to therapeutic driving. Mr. Charles, as the SpiritHorse children call him, has dedicated the remainder of his life and fortune to helping children through equine assisted healthcare. In addition to teaching children with disabilities horseback riding and horse carriage driving, he is well known for training abused horses and currently competes in combined driving trials. Mr. Fletcher is a retired business executive of a fortune 500 corporation and a former at-risk-youth.

CEO/Executive Director Statement:

SpiritHorse has been a wonderful ministry for me. I love these children so much. By choice, I am not financially compensated which allows us to serve more children. I am, however, the world's richest man because I get paid in a higher currency: hugs and smiles. I am leaving my ranch and all of my assets to the SpiritHorse Children.

Funding Needs

Unfortunately, the current economic situation has decreased our income from foundations, a major source of revenue, even though we have doubled our efforts to secure those funds. We were able to reduce our total costs in the fourth quarter of 2008 by 28%; sadly, a portion of that reduction was possible because we were forced to end the lessons of 60 riders three weeks early. We struggle on a daily basis to keep our costs down, which are only 23% of the national average, and to raise funds from any source. In doing so, we can keep our services free of charge. Based upon the average income per rider in other centers around the US, we save the parents of our children with disabilities over $600,000 annually.

Volunteer Needs

Our parents are required to volunteer as a part of the team that intervenes with their child. We are fortunate to have substantial support from the University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University. and The University of Texas at Dallas.

Request for In-Kind Contributions

We need farm equipment, irrigation equipment, and barn stall materials
