Funding Needs
Government contracts average 65-80 cents on the dollar, leaving a budget deficit of approx. 20 percent. For prevention programs such as Preschool Vision Screening (Helen Keller Services for the Blind screens approximately 30,000 children ages 3 to 5 annually as a means to prevent blindness or other visual impairments), there is no government contract and is reliant upon donations and grants.
Volunteer Needs
Help Prevent Sight Loss in Children—Volunteers are needed to vision-screen preschool age children in the Kings County community. We will train and pay for your background check. For information, please call Bill Dale at 516-485-1234, extension 607 or email info@helenkeller.org.
Volunteers are needed in our Hempstead Senior Center to assist with our active Center programming. We are open Monday through Friday, 10 am to 2 pm. Help is needed in the areas of transportation, crafts, games, exercise, meal service, and special trips. For further information, please call Janet Sarro at 516-485-1234, extension 240 or email jsarro@helenkeller.org.
