Mission Statement
Founded as a home for abandoned children, The New York Foundling helps children, youth and adults in need through advocacy and through preventive and in-care services that help each individual reach his or her potential. In the tradition of openness and compassion of its sponsors, the Sisters of Charity, the agency cares for more than 13,000 people each year in the New York City area and in Puerto Rico as it upholds its guiding principle - Abandon No One.

The New York Foundling’s broad continuum of care includes: Foster care, adoption and trauma specific treatment for abused and neglected children; Support services for juvenile offenders and their families; A charter school designed specifically for students in the child welfare system; Youth Development programs that support young adults transitioning from foster care to independence; Community-based family services; Casework and Mental Health Services for teen mothers; Family crisis services, including a Parent Helpline and the only 24 hr Crisis Nursery in NYC; A summer camp program for youth in foster care and prevention programs; Early education and day care; Enriching after-school activities for youth in low-income neighborhoods; Services and residences for people with developmental disabilities.

Program Description:
Supportive services to more than 800 families to educate and strengthen the family and avoid the placement of children in foster care. Services may be general or intensive. Specialized services include those for families with hearing-impaired members, pregnant teens and new mothers, substance abusers, a 24-hour/7-day a week Crisis Nursery, family-based day care, Seton Pre-School and Day Care, Head Start for more than 1,100 children in Puerto Rico, teens in the juvenile justice system, and many other populations with complex needs.

Program Description:
Supportive services for more than 400 youth, age 14-21, in foster care, to equip them with the life skills necessary to lead independent, productive lives once they age out of the foster care system. Education and Housing advocates help youth navigate the respective systems identify and achieve goals. Various groups of staff, volunteers and mentors provide one-to-one support, guidance and examples of role models. Conduct college tours, career fairs, and self-advocacy seminars to expose the youth to available opportunities.
