Program Description:
Leake & Watts’ Family Foster Care program began work in the 1940’s and serves children who have experienced abuse and neglect. The goal in all cases is to establish a permanent appropriate living arrangement for the child, preferably back with his/her birth family. If that is not possible, the goal is to establish a home with an adoptive family or to prepare the youth to live independently.
Our Mother/Child Home in the Bronx serves teen mothers in foster care. Pregnant and parenting teens along with their children are served in these homes. This placement is appropriate for youth who have experienced multiple failed prior placements in family foster care because of serious behavioral issues including aggression, defiance of authority, running away, and/or mental health issues. In all cases, we work with the mothers to identify resources that can provide long-term support for them and their child (ren) as well as concurrently prepare them for adulthood. The focus, as with all foster youth, is on education, skills development (with particular emphasis on parenting and homemaking for these mothers), employment, safety and well-being.
Our Residential Treatment Center, located on a 30-acre campus in Yonkers, NY, provides 24-hour residential care to youth age 12 - 21 requiring therapeutic and educational support. As part of the Residential Treatment Center, we operate Shrady Cottage for 14 girls who have been sexually exploited. This highly structured program serves youth with emotional disorders who have experienced trauma as well as youth who are placed at Leake & Watts based on educational and therapeutic needs.

Program Description:
hThe Biondi School is a non-public school providing 12-month specialized educational services for children with social and emotional difficulties and severe academic deficits. Many students have a history of substance abuse, general delinquency, depression, psychotic thinking, suicidal ideation, impulsivity, anxiety and poor social skills. Emphasis is on academic achievement, skills development, and increasing each student's ability to remain on task, interact appropriately with peers, and improve behavior so that they can return to their local public school.
Our Early Childhood Programs started nearly 25 years ago and serve over 325 children, age two to five, in the Bronx and Southern Westchester County. These include day care for low-income families, a Head Start program, Universal Pre-kindergarten services and preschool special education programs. Central to our programs is the belief that all children have the ability to learn and to grow. We encourage self-directed learning through play, while providing a structured and positive learning environment where all children will be helped to reach their potential.
Program Long-Term Success:
At The Biondi School, where 83% of youth arrive with deficiencies in math and reading skills, our teaching staff help youth achieve approximately 1.2 months of progress for every one month that a youth is enrolled.

Program Description:
Our Preventive Services Program aims to stabilize at-risk families before they reach a crisis point, preventing the need to place children in foster care, and to assist families as they transition from a foster care placement. Family-driven services include assistance with housing, employment, substance abuse treatment, education, counseling, and assistance accessing mental health and other community services and resources. Having operated preventive services for 30 years, our network of resources to assist families is extensive.
Program Long-Term Success:
We are proud that in our Preventive Services program, we stabilize over 97% of our families, preventing hundreds of children from foster care placement.

Woodfield Cottage is a secure detention facility for youth under the age of 16 who are awaiting court action. These youth are accused of committing crimes, some of which are violent in nature. Our services include individual and group counseling, a full-day school program, 24-hour medical services, family outreach, aftercare planning, and religious and spiritual services. These services are offered in a structured setting and a caring, albeit high-security, environment. For the past 13 years, Leake & Watts has been the only non-profit agency to provide these services in New York State.
