Mission Statement
The Resource Foundation works to promote effective philanthropy to Latin America and the Caribbean, which will result in empowering the disadvantaged with the skills, knowledge and opportunities to improve their lives. It assists US donors interested in supporting programs and organizations in the region. By providing specialized, tailored services, The Resource Foundation ensures that donors' philanthropic vision is realized; that their support goes to effective, sustainable organizations with a proven track-record of long-term success; and that the impact of their support is monitored. Over the last 24 years, The Resource Foundation has built an extensive network of effective nonprofit organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean that share the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life of the region's disadvantaged through the creation of opportunities.

Chief Executive Profile:
Dr. Loren Finnell is the President, CEO, and Founder of The Resource Foundation. In 1987, he founded The Resource Foundation to leverage the resources and experience of donors worldwide and nonprofits in Latin America and the Caribbean to increase the self-reliance and living standards of the disadvantaged. In honor of his life work, The National Peace Corps Association selected Dr. Finnell to receive the 2006 Sargent Shriver Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Service. In 2008, Dr. Finnell received a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa degree from Manchester College.
Prior to establishing The Resource Foundation in 1987, Dr. Finnell headed his own consulting firm for eight years, supporting the programmatic and management needs of U.S., Canadian and developing world nonprofits in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, as well as fulfilling USAID contracts. From 1972 to 1979, Dr. Finnell helped found and develop Private Agencies Collaborating Together (PACT), a U.S. based international consortium of nonprofit organizations, serving as its Deputy Executive Director and managing a Development Fund that made grants to development projects worldwide.
Dr. Finnell had two tenures with International Voluntary Services, as Program Director in Washington, DC (1971-72) and as Staff in Laos (1966-68). He has visited 44 countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia on multiple occasions, and he is fluent in Spanish and has a solid understanding of Portuguese.

Program Description:
Today, The Resource Foundation is working with 145 non-profit organizations in 25 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean on high-impact, self-help programs related to: capacity-building, cultural programs, disaster relief, education and vocational training, environmental concerns, health and HIV/AIDS, low-cost housing, microenterprise, potable water, sustainable agriculture, and low-cost housing. Through these NGOs and their development projects, The Resource Foundation is helping to improve living standards for 4.9 million disadvantaged men, women, children and youths.
Program Long-Term Success:
Supported 205 development projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, thereby directly supporting 4.9 million people in their efforts to improve their lives and build better futures for themselves and their families.
