Program Description:
TEAK
provides comprehensive support in each student’s search for the best possible
high school match and helps place students in selective public, parochial, and
independent day and boarding schools. TEAK guides each family through high
school options, forming a high school list, school visits, testing,
applications, interviews, financial aid, advocacy, and final decision-making.
Students attend after-school and weekend sessions to complete test preparation
classes and reading comprehension workshops, and to work on high school
applications and interview skills. TEAK does not assign students to schools nor
guarantee that students will be accepted at specific schools.
Program Long-Term Success:
- Admitted students will complete a 5 ½-year Fellowship and have an equitable and enriching educational experience.
- Students will be academically prepared to compete in the selective admissions process for spots at top public, parochial, and independent high schoand will matriculate to rigorous and challenging high school environments.
- Fellows will succeed academically in high school through their own talents, TEAK’s academic preparation, and TEAK’s ongoing support.
- Fellows will remain in the school at which they were originally placed, over the course of their high school career.
- Fellows will grow as leaders and as active community members.
- Fellows will have exposure to new professional paths and personal development experiences.
- TEAK families will be empowered to increase participation in their child’s education.
Program Short-Term Success:
- 8th-grade students will show acquisition of new skills and improvement over the course of the 8th-Grade Writing & Algebra Class.
- 8th-grade students will achieve a score improvement over the length of the high school admissions test prep course.
- 8th-grade students will assess their support and satisfaction throughout the high school placement process as “very good” or “excellent.”
- 8th-grade students will gain admission to one or more selective high schools.
- High School Fellows will have the option to continue, and choose to continue, in the school at which they were originally placed.
- High School Fellows will be active and impactful members of their school communities.
- High School Fellows will be promoted by their school to the next grade.

TEAK placed
100% of active Class of ‘14 Fellows at selective high schools across NYC,
the Northeast, and California, and helped students apply for and earn $4.1
million in need-based financial aid over four years. 100% of Class of ‘14 families assessed TEAK’s high
school placement services as “very good” or “excellent” and 100% agreed that
they expanded their knowledge and choices about high
school because of TEAK. 100%
of Class of ‘15 Fellows received after-school and weekend prep programs
including test prep classes; reading comprehension, writing, and math classes;
high school application and interview skill preparation; and individualized
advisement.

Program Description:
This
6-week, full-day, rigorous academic program offers intensive math, English,
Latin, science, and research classes, as well as co-curricular courses in
drama, dance, drumming, and art. Complementing instruction within the classroom,
the program hosts field trips, a speaker series, and visiting artists. Students
also attend test preparation courses for the high school admissions exams
(SHSAT, SSAT, and TACHS).
Program Long-Term Success:
- Students will develop a stronger academic foundation than they would have had without the Fellowship, which will aid them in future educational endeavors.
- Students will be academically prepared to compete in the selective admissions process for spots at top public, parochial, and independent high schools, and will matriculate to rigorous and challenging high school environments.
Program Short-Term Success:
- 7th- and 8th-grade students will show acquisition of new academic skills and improvement in English, Latin, math, science, and research, over the course of the Summer Institute.
Program Success Monitored by:
Teachers of TEAK academic programs evaluate progress and skill acquisition for each Fellow within a course.
Program Success Examples:
TEAK served 100%
of rising 8th and 9th grade students (54), every weekday
from 9am to 4:30pm, for 6 weeks. TEAK offered each student a full-day academic and enrichment program
consisting of math, English, Latin, science, cover stories, and arts electives.
The average attendance rate was 99% and 62% of students had perfect
attendance. 91% of students
achieved mastery or gained working knowledge of new knowledge and skills in
their academic classes and 98% showed improvement in the academic subject
areas.

Program Description:
Beginning
in the junior year, TEAK provides a comprehensive college guidance program for
Fellows and their families to supplement the resources offered by their high
schools. TEAK offers individualized college counseling; workshops on the
application process, college essays, and financial aid; SAT preparation
classes; and college trips.
Program Long-Term Success:
- Fellows will navigate the college admission and financial aid application processes and matriculate to selective 4-year colleges and universities.
- Graduating Fellows will rate the support they received from their high school and from TEAK as “very good” or “excellent.”
- Graduating Fellows will report that if in 7th grade again, they would still choose to participate in TEAK.
- Alumni will have the option to remain at the college to which they first matriculated for the length of their degree and will graduate from college in four or five years.
- Alumni will maintain foundations they developed over the course of their TEAK Fellowship, helping support strong transitions to college and success in academic, professional, and community endeavors.
Program Short-Term Success:
- 11th- and 12th-grade families will participate in college application and financial aid sessions and participating families will increase their knowledge of the college admissions process.
- 11th-grade Fellows will participate in the primary and/or refresher SAT preparation courses and see improvement in SAT scores.
- 11th-grade Fellows will participate in one or more college trips and expand their knowledge and perceived choices regarding college.
- 12th-grade Fellows will assess the College Counseling Program as “very good” or “excellent.”
- 12th-grade Fellows will gain admission to one or more selective 4-year colleges or universities.
- 12th-grade Fellows will graduate from high school.
