Mission Statement

 
We support children and families who have escaped abusive situations. We provide donated furniture and household goods to clients of domestic violence services and other agencies as these families begin new independent, productive lives in safe environments.

Impact Statement

In 2008 through 2010 we gave furniture to 676 families, including 735 adults
and 975 children
 
For every dollar of our cost we were able to give away $9 worth of goods.
 
Some items we gave away in 2010 include 512 blankets/comforters, 455 kitchen chairs, 337 pillows, 290 mattress sets, 168 couches, 77 microwaves. We gave away a total of 6609 items.
 
In 2010 we gave away (recycled) 325,000 pounds of furniture—some of which would have gone into the landfill.

Program Description:

Women leaving domestic abuse shelters often move into apartments that need cleaning. Cleaning supplies are expensive and a cost to these women who are on limited incomes. 

We want to offer each woman a bucket filled with cleaning supplies and a clothes basket with laundry supplies. Additionally, we seldom have vacuums and would like to offer refurbished vacuums to those who need one (estimated 50-75 per year) and finally we always need pots and pans and would like to purchase some sets of new ones.

 

Program Long-Term Success:

We will reduce the need for abuse victioms to return to their abusers for support.

Program Short-Term Success:

Each family will receive

Cleaning Bucket, Laundry Baskets,
Vacuum Cleaners
New Pots and Pans

Program Success Monitored by:

Will interview advocates from domestic abuse shelters to determione the effectriveness.

Program Success Examples:

Every client receiving household furniture will have a clean apartment to move into.

Since 2005, our warehouse space has been donated rent free by Principal Financial Group. In 2011 our building will be torn down. We are seeking an in-kind donation of a new warehouse.
