Impact Statement

Haven for Hope’s vision became a reality in 2010, when the dormitories opened for residents beginning in April of 2010 and fully opening in August of 2010. In 2010, Haven for Hope’s Capital Campaign came to a close and fundraising going forward is focused on operations. In 2010, Haven for Hope served over 3,000 homeless and low-income individuals in San Antonio.

The immediate goals are as follows:

1.      Establish a system of 3 “Pathways”: During the first 6 months of operation, a wide variety of homeless individuals have come to Haven for Hope with diverse backgrounds and reasons for becoming homeless. The pathways program will focus on 3 areas: life skills, vocational/educational skills and advanced skills.

2.      Establish control systems to control illicit drugs through Campus and to adequately address the high incidence of substance addiction:

a.       With the high occurrence of drug and alcohol addicted homeless individuals living at Haven for Hope, an In-House Recovery Program (IHRP) has been established in the men’s and women’s dormitory in October 2010. The IHRP is 60 days long: 30 intensive rehabilitation and 30 days supportive rehabilitation.

b.      Increase security in Prospects Courtyard: Prospects Courtyard (PCY) is an area on the Haven for Hope Campus for the chronic homeless.

c.       Finally, a prescription drug dispensary has been set up on Campus to help administer and control the use of prescribed medicines.

3.      To better implement the goals described above onto an already operational Campus, Haven for Hope will kick off an internal campaign called “We Idea.” This internal marketing campaign is aimed at helping the Members on Campus focus on their individual mission, vision and plan. Our goal is that each Member on the Haven for Hope Campus will have the ability to articulate their goals and plans for self-sufficiency after they leave Haven for Hope.
