Mission Statement
WHCP’s mission is to significantly decrease behaviors among drug users that put them at the highest risk for HIV and hepatitis transmission. WHCP works to achieve this mission by providing its participants with safer-injection and safer-sex supplies, harm reduction education and literature, as well as case management and referrals, supportive counseling, wellness evaluations, crisis intervention, and other crucial health and social services. WHCP believes that the key to achieving its mission lies in providing drug-using individuals with evidence-based education and support so that they can make healthy choices and positive changes in their lives.

Impact Statement

Chief Executive Profile:
Jamie Favaro founded WHCP in November, 2005. While working as the Assistant Director of a Homeless Outreach Program in Washington Heights, Favaro was struck by the lack of harm reduction resources available to such a high-risk population.
Jamie Favaro is a Licensed Social Worker in New York State, she received her degree from Columbia University School of Social Work.
CEO/Executive Director Statement:
WHCP began as a direct pro-active response to syringe sharing among homeless drug users known to the founder through her work as Assistant Director of a local homeless outreach program. In a few short years, WHCP emerged as a leader in harm reduction education and service provision in New York City.

Program Description:
WHCP operates street-based outreach four days/ week in the community of Washington Heights. WHCP is unique in that over 60% of our clients are homeless or quasi-homeless. Additionally, we are a state-licensed opiate overdose prevention program and also participate in Peer Delivered Syringe Exchange (PDSE).
Program Long-Term Success:
WHCP evolves from a one-person volunteer outreach endeavor to a non-profit 501(c)3 community based agency with three full-time staff, a part-time fiscal manager, MPH and MSW interns, and four volunteers.

Funding Needs
Because WHCP is the newest Syringe Exchange Program in New York State, our agency has the least fiscal infrastructure. WHCP is accepting funding to support general operating expenses, special programs, and special events.
Volunteer Needs
WHCP is currently seeking volunteers to assist with reception desk duties, general office maintenance, grant writing, fund raising, and special events planning.
