Mission Statement

The premier leadership development organization for girls in the country, Girl Scouts is where today's girls become tomorrow's leaders. Our mission -- to help girls lead with courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place -- still resonates, just as it did at our founding by Juliette Gordon Low over 98 years ago. Girl Scouting has evolved over the years to remain relevant and to reach more girls. Today, programs address financial literacy, healthy living, the environment, science, technology, engineering, and math. But at the heart of every one of these programs -- and the Girl Scout experience -- is one goal: to develop girls as leaders.

Category:
Youth Development
Population Served:
Female Children and Youth (infants - 19 years)

Program Description:

Each year Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania offers hundreds of programs in a wide range of topics from animal care to canoeing, from backpacking to arts and crafts, and from leadership skills to career exploration. Whether girls are part of a troop/group, participating in a camp program or selling Girl Scout cookies, the Girl Scout program is full of fun opportunities for girls to grow and learn. And, every activity and every program rests on the solid foundation of Girl Scout values. Four program goals are central in Girl Scouting, ensuring that girls have an opportunity to grow as individuals as a result of their participation in Girl Scouting. The goals are: Develop self-potential. Promote each girl's perception of herself as competent, responsible, and open to new experiences and challenges. Relate to others. Promote an understanding and appreciation of individual, cultural, religious, and racial differences. Develop values. Foster an ability to make decisions that are consistent with her values and that reflect respect for the rights and needs of others. Contribute to society. Promote an understanding of how the quality of community life affects her own life and the whole of society. Girl Scouts is where girls grow strong!
