CEO/Executive Director Statement:
I was hired in the Spring of 2011 to bring MVRF to the national stage, in terms of its fundraising for retinal research and to focus the organization's mission. Our Development Plan outlines the stategies of my plan to exponentially increase awareness, as well as research funding, within five years.
Every day, I am reminded of what a great decision it was to join the MVRF team. I have been privileged to get to know our founders and am continually inspired by their commitment to finding a cure and their generosity in support of research. Our distinguished International Scientific Advisory Board is on the forefront of the latest research and advances in the field. To be in the company of such distinguished people as our founders and Board is truly humbling.
MVRF has been behind many successful studies, including the incredible success of a clinical study at Hadassah Hospital, funded solely by MVRF, which is using gene therapy to restore sight to patients suffering from Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (RPE65). For those young adults whose sight was restored in this study, they have new hope for the future. [This study is the basis for several other studies that will begin this year to replicate these results and help more people retain their sight.
I have assumed the challenge of creating a national awareness campaign and exponentially increasing research funding.
Through our social media campaign, we have connected with thousands of people through Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Through these
social networks and our website, the MVRF community is creating a dialogue about research, discussing new developments in the field, and sharing helpful tips to help those affected live well with the diagnosis.
My goal is to make information about retinal diseases, including macular degeneration and congenital childhood blindness, easily accessible to anyone who needs it.
Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to sharing many more successes with you in the coming year.
