Chief Executive

Mrs. Sharon Knutson-Felix

Term:

Since Dec 2001

Chief Executive Profile:

Sharon is the past president of Concerns of Police Survivors and recipient of Special Recognition by the United States Attorney of Arizona for Victim's Support.

In 2002, Sharon received a special award from the New York City Police Commissioner for her unselfish and unconditional caring and support of POPPA Services Provided For the Wellness of New York City Police Officers and Their Families in the aftermath of the World Trade Center Disaster. In 2004, Sharon received the Director's Community Leadership Award from the FBI in recognition of outstanding contribution to our Nation's communities through unselfish dedication and leadership.

Sharon’s passion for helping victims stems from the death of her 6-year-old son, Ricky, and DPS Officer husband Doug Knutson. Since that time, Sharon has been very involved in supporting the public safety families by providing peer support and assistance during times of tragedy. Sharon is invited to speak throughout the United States at women's retreats, graduations, and award banquets. In 2010, Sharon received the prestigious Athena Award from the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce.

Sharon authored a book, "Gifts My Father Gave Me."  She is a currently married to David Felix, retired from AZ DPS and the proud mom of Misty who works for the Department of Public Safety and her son, Justin who serves in the US Army.  Sharon enjoys serving the public safety community and spending time with her 6 grandchildren.

CEO/Executive Director Statement:

The 100 Club of Arizona was the first organization to offer their assistance to me when my DPS Officer, Doug Knutson, was killed in the line of duty.  I know first-hand what the support of the 100 Club means to the families of officers/firefighters who lose a loved-one in the line of duty.  I am proud that since I became the executive director, we have been able to extend the support of the 100 Club to all families of public safety officers and firefighters in the state of Arizona, to include local, county, state, federal and tribal agencies.  In addition to extending our benefits to the entire state, we have increased our benefits and programs to reach out to the public safety agencies to contribute to the safety and welfare of those who serve us 24/7.

Program: Special Needs/H.E.R.O.S.

Budget:
$75,000
Category:
Public Safety, Disaster Services
Population Served:
Adults

Program Description:

It has been the tradition of the 100 Club of Arizona to not ask anything of our members beyond the payment of their annual dues. The yearly membership dues sustain the daily operations of the 100 Club of Arizona and provide for the financial assistance to the families of officers and firefighters who are seriously injured or killed. The 100 Club of Arizona still holds to this philosophy, however; members are provided opportunities to participate in events, donate services, and contribute financially to special needs.

There are many organizations and business in our community that wish to provide support and services when an officer or firefighter is seriously injured or killed. Some want to show their appreciation for the sacrifices made by the public safety community. The 100 Club of Arizona coordinates available resources with needs of public safety families through the Helping Emergency Response Officer and Survivors (H.E.R.O.S) and Special Needs programs.

Funding Needs

The 100 Club of Arizona is always looking for supporters that will enable the organization to continue reaching its goal of standing behind the men and women who stand behind the badge. With the current state of the economy, public safety officers and firefighters are relying on the 100 Club even more because of the budget cuts most public safety agencies are facing. The SES Program is becoming more vital to agencies who need to keep their first responders safe but have less and less money with which to do it. Benefits are also becoming more important to the families who lose their spouse and provider or who lose a majority of their income due to on-duty injuries.
A preferred source of funding for the 100 Club is its memberships which range from $150 per year for an individual to $500+ for a corporate membership. More detailed information can be found online at www.100club.org

Volunteer Needs

The 100 Club is often chosen as the beneficiary of monies collected during different charity events around the valley. The 100 Club is usually requested to have a booth at these events to share information about the charity that has been chosen to receieve the money raised. Because the 100 Club is such a small staff, (6 full-time in the Phoenix area and 1 full-time in Tucson), volunteers are greatly relied upon to help out at these events. The 100 Club is always looking for volunteers who would like to attend events and share information with the public about the 100 Club. Volunteers are also needed for two annual events hosted and organized by the 100 Club each year as well as for occasional office tasks such as stuffing, sealing and posting envelopes for large mailings.

Request for In-Kind Contributions

The 100 Club appreciates and accepts in-kind contributions such as pro-bono web design, graphic design, database updating, etc. Other in-kind contributions may also be accepted on a case by case basis. Anyone wanting to do an in-kind contribution to the 100 Club should call 602-485-0100 and ask to speak with a 100 Club representative for more information.
