Impact Statement
In 2009, we moved into our new building, which was funded through generous donations from the City of Brownwood, Raise the Woof, and people like you. Our new building allows us to house more animals, which furthers our ultimate goal of becoming a no-kill shelter. Our adoptions have increased since the change.
We have several community programs: Pets for Seniors, KIND, and spay/neuter [S/N] vouchers (to name a few). These programs allow us to provide services to those who might otherwise not be able to afford it. Pets for Seniors lets us give substantial discounts (sometimes 100%) to seniors adopting from our shelter, and covers rabies, shots, microchip, and S/N. KIND is an outreach/educational program that allows us to give information about animals and preventing animal cruelty in the community to children in local schools. Our S/N program ensures that every animal adopted from us is fixed before going to their Forever Home, and also allows us to give those from low-income areas substantially discounts on S/N procedures.
Our goals for this year are to get enough funding to expand our S/N program to more families, hopefully providing this service for free. S/N is the bulk of our adoption expenses, as well, so we would love to get more funding not just for our voucher program, but for our adoption program, too.
We would like more funding for senior programs. Pets for Seniors is a wonderful program, and AniMeals would be a great supplement. AniMeals provides pet meals to seniors in conjunction with the Meals on Wheels.
We have a dream that we will be a no-kill shelter by 2020. To do this, we need funding for veterinary services, medicines for our animals, S/N programs, a surgical suite, a dog park, a more comprehensive educational program for children in the county, funding for cruelty investigations and community outreach programs. We have so many dreams, so many goals. With enough support, we will surely reach them, and soon.

Crime/Abuse Victims
Program Description:
The Kennel Manager is a certified cruelty investigator, and this program allows us to properly manage and investigate cruelty reports throughout the county. While educating owners about proper pet care is the primary goal, it is the sometimes the case that a pet is better being taken away from the owner to be given rehabilitative services and a chance at adoption to a more suitable home. The funding for this program allows us to offer follow-up care, too. Cruelty victims often require much vet care to recover from the abuse.
