Mission Statement

Expanding Lives works with our partner organization MICA to encourage young women to be part of the 2 % of women to finish high school and continue to tertiary schools.

Our educational conferences help young women to develop the voice, the self-confidence and the problem solving-skills necessary for empowerment. Expanding Lives encourages participants to become active role models, leaders, and agents of change in their communities.

Impact Statement

International aid organizations have long proclaimed the value of educating girls. An educated girl in a developing country improves the life expectancy, the chances of visiting a health clinic, the number of years her children will be educated, the family's and community's economics, the likelihood of using birth control, the acceptance of human rights.

Expanding Lives recognizes the strength of educated young women and our programs enhance that power. We choose young women from different communities in Niger to help them to learn about each other. For 6 weeks the high achieving young women live with American host families in the Chicago area, interacting with American young people and attending courses which are difficult to find or non-existent at home. When they return home, the young women are stronger, more sure of themselves, and respected in the home community.
