Chief Executive

Mr. Brandon Oswald

CEO/Executive Director Statement:

Cultural heritage is our passion, and to serve the twenty-two countries of the South Pacific region we need to offer voluntary help in every aspect of the archival profession. We take great pride in providing aid in areas such appraising records. This is a very difficult act of deciding what to keep and what not to keep. Next, we help in the processing of records by arranging and describing them so that access to them can be easier. Preserving records is where we like to get our hands dirty, and in many cultural institution this is not just a figure of speech, as it is very common to find dirty, moldy, and insect ridden documents. We are also available to advise on topics such as Records Management that is extremely important, especially in government archives where the records from the many governmental departments (or ministries) need to be managed in an efficient and systematic manner. Finally, digitization of records is the future of cultural heritage institutions. Among many things, it focuses on making records accessible to interested people throughout the world that have an available computer at their fingertips. Many cultural organizations of the South Pacific countries are not quite ready for this current way of disseminating information, however ICAS wants to be there to guide them with this transition by providing practical knowledge, experience and training.

Writing policies that promote good governance in the care and access of their records typifies one our specialties. Without policies, the staff will flounder and make decisions that can be harmful to the integrity of their records. This also includes Disaster Management Planning. The South Pacific is a very volatile place prone to natural disasters. The preparation to safe keep lives and records is at the forefront of our mission.
