Chief Executive

Loree A. Primeau, Ph.D.

Term:

Since July 2011

Chief Executive Profile:

Loree A. Primeau, PhD, OTR, FAOTA, is a Board Certified Occupational Therapist. Prior to joining the Autism Community Network, she managed a private multidisciplinary therapy program for children with autism, and, most recently, she worked as a member of the Preschool Assessment Team for the Northside Independent School District. Prior to her activities in San Antonio, Dr. Primeau was an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she served as Department Chair between 1998-2004. She received her PhD in Occupational Science from the University of Southern California in 1995.

CEO/Executive Director Statement:

The Autism Community Network is located on South Zarzamora Street, and housed in several inviting cottages on the southeast corner of the University Center for Community Health. Early diagnosis and intervention are available in English and Spanish. Fees are based on a sliding scale according a client’s ability to pay, with some families receiving services at no cost.

This project seeks to raise the level of autism awareness and understanding for families on the West Side, a previously underserved population in San Antonio. Each child’s diagnosis and therapy will be in tandem with parent training and support groups. The ultimate goal is to make lasting improvements in the overall development of children with autism so they are better able to enter school ready to learn, and as they develop, to enjoy meaningful involvement in their community.

The assessment team includes a Developmental Pediatrician, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Behavior Analyst, and Psychologist. Test results are presented to the parents on the day of the diagnostic.
• Parent Orientation/Consultations are given in order to provide more details about a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and the treatment options available. Follow-up sessions with a resource coordinator, medical director, and/or social worker may be recommended. The social worker acts as the “case manager” and develops a service plan for individual families.
• Individual Therapy is given on-site, over a course of six weeks. The family is offered speech, occupational, and/or behavioral therapy based on their child’s needs. In some cases, a co-treatment or “joint” therapy approach may be offered. Parents are required to participate in all sessions.
