Mission Statement

Our Mission is to help all in need  to the best of our ability. We follow the parable of the Good Samaritan, as there are no requirements for our services. And we know our program is second to none , as we constantly reinvent the wheel to make it all work. The faces of homelessness can change as well as each individual’s circumstances. And there have been very few that we have not been able to help. Veterans have become our priority as we have seen their suffering the most. The Mission has helped more homeless Vets in Citrus County than any other organization combined.

The Mission in Citrus Inc was founded in 2008, after our founder became homeless himself , and found that traditional shelters were not working , or addressing the needs of Veterans.

Veterans fought for the rights of all , including themselves. The Founder feels that no one should lose those rights by becoming homeless. The shelters he stayed in, and visited, force the residents to church , hard labor , and many other things that do not make them productive or a part of society when they leave. That is why our Veterans Shelter is helping Veterans. We operate on love and a family atmosphere.

Veterans, and many others who are homeless are helped , in the rural areas of Florida , regardless of their beliefs or unique situations. Many Veterans have given up trusting in our society, and have little access to shelter and services in rural settings. Our program is designed for those who are far from less than perfect and know it , but want and need help. Through building these relationships and the provision of housing, health, outreach, spiritual, and social services, we seek to empower homeless people of all ages to meet their own needs. Recognizing the uniqueness, dignity, and value of each person, we accept individuals as they are, in an affirming and compassionate manner, and call upon the larger community to the same mission. The Mission provides basic and self-care supplies, free health care, housing and supportive services for the homeless that are the hardest to reach, referrals to other resources and more.

The Mission in Citrus Inc operates five shelters located in Crystal River, Floral City ,Hernando, and Inverness Florida… Our Mission is to help all in need regardless of their faith or lack of.  While we encourage, teach and preach the Gospel, we force it upon no one.  It is not a requirement for any of our services. The Mission is a 501(c)3 Public Charity and all donations are tax deductible.  Over $.95 cents of every dollar goes directly to goods and services for homeless residents.

The core of the Mission is :

Impact Statement

The Mission Homeless Shelters are run by formerly and presently homeless staff. The Mission is proud of their 90% success rate. During 2010, we helped over 1200 homeless men, women, and children...95 were Veterans. We feed over 500 per month..

Our Mountain Bike patrols through Operation Mercy call have reached those who have never been reached before. We ride through the woods and swamps in several counties.Unfortunately a dead body was found on our rounds. At least we were able to see him get a proper burial.

In 2011 , our goals are to start our hydroponic and aquaponic gardens. Our Angels on Wheels , and several other innovative programs. Our goal is to end rural homelessness around America.

CEO/Executive Director Statement:

We are happy to announce the opening of the Homeless Brigade. The Mission in Citrus opened the new Veterans only, shelter in March 2010. The 25 bed shelter will allow us to better serve, those who served us. The shelter is a miracle in itself , as it was opened on less than $ 5000.. The Mission continues to move forward in faith , as we look for our fourth shelter. The Mission operates the largest shelter system outside Orlando or Tampa. With the smallest budget..On January 10,2011, we opened our fifth shelter. It is an outreach center for the many Veterans in Apache Shores, Florida.
