Mission Statement

The Mission of Africa Windmill Project is to teach farm irrigation in Malawi using sustainable, low-cost, low-tech windmills constructed with locally found materials to enable year-round food production.  There is a need for irrigation because rainfall only occurs 3 months a year, significantly limiting the growing season.  Malawians suffer from malnutrition because of their inadequate food supply.  Current irrigation methods are very expensive or extremely labor intesive.  All of the aforementioned problems have also impacted the population with HIV because the malnourished are not eligible to take the antiretroviral medications.

Impact Statement

The irrigation solution has created a stable food supply at the village level.  The agriculture clubs have begun strides towards community development, service and community initiatives that have not been seen before.  The production of food has been such that families are nourished and there is enough remaining crops to take to market.  Thus, providing monies for medicine, school, seeds and other household items.
