Program Description:
The Foundation highlights ten charities per quarter--one in each of ten areas (health, poverty, environment, education, human rights, peace, animal protection, child welfare, small charities, and the Foundation itself). Members join the Foundation by signing up for an automatic monthly donation in the amount of their choice, then indicate how they would like it distributed among the ten categories. At the end of each quarter, 100 percent of donations goes to the beneficiaries and a new slate is featured.
Program Long-Term Success:
Create a tangible presence for nonreligious givers in the philanthropic community; grow to 2000 members and $250,000 annual giving by end of 2011.
Program Short-Term Success:
Complete first year with $80,000 in grants to charitable organizations; launch Challenge the Gap, a worldview outreach program; launch Volunteers Beyond Belief, coordinating local humanist volunteer efforts.
Program Success Monitored by:
Board oversight and member feedback based on key programmatic objectives.
Program Success Examples:
$75,000 in grants made to featured charities as of Dec 1, 2010.
Funding Needs
Our Humanist Charitable Giving Program is a self-sufficient, dollar-in/dollar-out program funded by member donations. The operational expenses of the Foundation, including the volunteer coordination program launching in 2011, is reliant on individual donations and grants to the Foundation itself. One-time donations can be made through our website.
Volunteer Needs
Approximately twenty volunteer staff assist in membership development, social media coordination, graphic design, charity research, and communications with our beneficiaries. Applications are available on our website.
Request for In-Kind Contributions
In-kind contributions in the form of volunteer graphic design, bookkeeping, and other services are needed from time to time.
