Mission Statement
SquirrelWood
Equine Sanctuary provides a second chance to horses at risk
of shipment to slaughter, abuse or neglect. Through exceptional care,
responsible horsemanship, and training we provide these horses with a
chance of a new home. Those that are unable to be adopted, due to
behavioral issues, or physical problems are provided sanctuary for the
remainder of their natural lives.It is our goal to continue setting high
standards of care, and to provide each of our charges with the best
possible life.

Slaughter Interception
We carefully monitor East Coast auctions for polo horses at risk of shipment to slaughter. These horses are intercepted, if possible, and are brought into the Sanctuary.

We strive to raise $175,000 a year to support our sanctuary residents.
Volunteer Needs
Volunteers are welcome here at the Sanctuary. Both adults and teenagers welcome, children may help if accompanied by an adult caretaker. All volunteers must sign a liability release prior to starting at the sanctuary.
