CEO/Executive Director Statement:

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. ~ Chinese Proverb

These are words we base our organization on. We will feed him for the day as well as teach him to fish.

I believe we have a responsibility to ourselves and others to help those in need. While we do not believe aid is the answer, we do believe that it is still necessary while you build up the community. We create jobs, donate to nonprofits that provide aid as well as help implement programs to assist the people.

Program: Rwanda

Budget:
$10,000
Category:
International, Foreign Affairs & National Security
Population Served:
Poor/Economically Disadvantaged, Indigent, General
Female Adults
Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)

Program Description:

In 1994 more than 800,000 people were murdered over a period of 100 days… known today as the Rwandan Genocide. Rain of Light has been given the honor to work with and help surviving children and women of the war. These survivors still live day to day in uncertainty. Many are jobless and dependent upon the local churches to help them get by with their basic necessities. Our plan is to empower them. We create jobs by purchasing their handmade crafts. This encourages self-confidence and self-sustainability. Once the items are sold, we will then donate a portion of the profits to local Rwandan nonprofits with the same mission as Rain of Light. We are estimating our budget to be approximately $10,000. $6,000: To send two directors to Kigali, Rwanda to meet the survivors, take pictures and document their experience to further global knowledge. $2,500: To fund inventory purchases and shipping. $1,500: For Marketing, Advertising and festival fees and all other outreach initiatives. WHEN YOU MAKE A DONATION OF $1,000 OR MORE, YOU WILL RECEIVE SPECIAL RECOGNITION ON OUR WEBSITE!

Program Long-Term Success:

An increase in employment and a decrease in the number who go hungry as well as the number of children who are not able to attend school.

Program Short-Term Success:

When you hope for the future, you strive and press forward towards it. Our short-term success is when the number of women and children who produce the handcrafted items increase and they posses a sense of confidence and hope.

Program Success Monitored by:

The number of children enrolled in school and the number of jobless/homeless widows. The local church we will be working with will provide these numbers.
