Mission Statement

Day Nursery is a non-profit organization of professional staff and volunteers. Our mission is to assure excellent early education and care for young children in central Indiana. We promise: National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredited programs in our child care centers; Curriculum that inspires life-long learning; Flexible fee arrangements; Continuous training and development of staff; Community education and resources; and Leadership through public policy and community and corporate support.

Chief Executive Profile:

Early childhood education has always interested Carolyn Dederer. As a young girl growing up in Stockton, CA, she wanted to be a school teacher. She earned a degree in education and sociology from Illinois College and went on to complete a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Illinois in Springfield. Beyond her teaching career, she served United Way from 1984-1995 in a variety of positions, including executive director. She joined the Indiana University Foundation as a senior development director in 1996, a position she held until she moved to Day Nursery in 1998.
