Chief Executive Profile:
A graduate of the University of Maryland College Park and Indiana State University, Bertha has a wide array of work experience ranging from civil to private sector service. She previously worked for the U.S. Navy Department and for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. For the past 18 years she has worked in the non-profit industry. Leadership training and staff development are her forte stemming from education in Communications and Human Resource Development.
Bertha has provided leadership within the Community Action Network serving as a Program Director, Executive Director/Head Start Director and is currently CEO of Pace Community Action Agency. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at a local university, serves on various boards and has conducted state and national trainings. She has also developed and implemented a variety of management systems and business initiatives.
Bertha is enchanted with world travel, as it has provided new perspectives and views from many different cultures, i.e. Hong Kong, Egypt, England, West Africa, Greece, Bermuda, France, East Africa, Italy, Canada, Mexico, & South Africa. Her adventures in other cultures, background in diversified workplaces and experience in many positions, along with her lively training style offer an array of information and enlightenment.

Program Description:
The Women, Infants and Children Program provides nutrition counseling, nutritious foods and health referrals to pregnant, nursing or postpartum women, infants and children to age five. Eligibility is based on income, residence within the county and health and/or risk factors. We also provide vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables through our Farmer`s Market Program available May through October.

Program Description:
Head Start is an all-inclusive involvement program for low-income preschool children ages 3 through 5 and their families. Services provided include education, health, parent involvement activities and social services for the entire family, as well as special services to preschool age children with recognized disabilities.
Early Head Start providing services in Knox and Sullivan Counties, is an intensive, comprehensive, flexible child development program that is designed to reinforce and respond to the unique strengths and needs of each individual child and family.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to assist low-income households with winter heating and summer cooling costs. Services under this program are provided in Daviess, Greene, Knox and Sullivan Counties.

Program Description:
Indiana's Weatherization Assistance Program increases the energy efficiency of dwellings occupied by low-income Hoosiers, thereby reducing their energy costs, while safeguarding their Health and Safety.
Weatherization technicians use advanced energy audits and diagnostic equipment to identify the most cost-effective, energy saving measures for each home. Examples include, installing insulation, reducing air infiltration, performing heating tune-ups and modifications, and, when necessary, replacing faulty units that cannot be saved.

Program Description:
Health Connection provides specialized services in reproductive health for men and women of childbearing age. Clinical staff provide the following services:
- initial and annual physical examinations
- cancer screening
- testing/treatment for sexually transmitted infections
- pregnancy testing
- education/counseling
- all FDA-approved birth control methods
- screening for other health problems
- health promotion

Volunteer Needs
Volunteers are always welcome in our organization. We use many volunteers to meet are in-kind requirements for the Head Start and Early Head Start Program. Many volunteer opportunities are avaliable.
Request for In-Kind Contributions
Much of our required in-kind contributions are met through volunteers. Donations of cash or goods are also used as in-kind.
