The six classrooms were completed renovated in 2009 and both the kindergarten room and physical therapy room was renovated in 2010.
Program Success Monitored by:
Tenzin Choedon, assistant director at Jatson Chumig School monitors daily all renovations and construction projects while the president of JCEC travelled to Lhasa, Tibet twice a year to oversee project success and monitor costs and obtain receipts for all work accomplished by the donations from JCEC.
Program Success Examples:
$5,000 donation to renovate the classrooms in 2009.
$15,000 donation to renovate both the kindergarten and physical therapy rooms in 2010. The president of JCEC traveled to Jatson Chumig in Lhasa to review the work in both 2009 and 2010.
In April, 2011 - construction of a new girl's dormitory has begun and JCEC will be funding this construction through donations and grants through the end of this project in October, 2011. The president of JCEC will travel in May, '11 and again in October, 2011 to inspect the building of this new girl's dormitory. Receipts are provided throughout the four construction phases of this project.
Funding Needs
JCEC truly needs financial support to continue assisting The Jatson Chumig School and Orphanage in Lhasa, Tibet. Donations go to pay for food, clothing, medical care and the education of the children who call Jatson Chumig...home. This is an NGO, receiving no assistance from the CCP or government in China and 96% of all funds raised go directly to Jatson Chumig in Lhasa. No salaries or funds are paid to the three board members who donate their time, talent and treasure in making this program a success. In 2011, we have begun our capital campaign of building a new girl's dormitory along with a new toilet house to improve sanitation for all the children. In 2012, a new boy's dormitory is scheduled to be built along with a medical clinic. We seek funding from outside sources to complete these, and more, projects. This is critical as the 2008 earthquake damaged much of the school and orphanage... these children need our support, everyone's support, to overcome the difficulties they face everyday.
Volunteer Needs
Volunteers are needed to provide teaching assistance inside the classroom. People can come to Tibet and teach English in our primary school. We also need volunteers to work in our physical therapy room. Because of "issues" one needs to obtain a Permit to enter Tibet. We suggest all interested parties contact Tenzin Choedon, Jatson Chumig School Director, to assist volunteers in obtaining permission. The length of volunteer service is limited (by the government) but usually can last anywhere from one to four weeks. All volunteers must abide by government laws. We do not allow anyone with political or governmental issues/demands to participate at Jatson Chumig. Our only agenda is providing a better life for the children.
Request for In-Kind Contributions
First Aid items can be mailed (see website for address). Because shipping costs are so high, it is difficult to mail in-kind gifts. This is why financial contributions are necessary. Any donation can be specified as a restricted gift, thus the purchase can be made in Lhasa or sent from mainland China.
