Impact Statement
In 2009, the American Refugee Committee worked with more than 2 million refugees and disaster-affected individuals to help them recover and take back control of their lives.
Whether improving the health care available to Afghan refugees in Pakistan, working with war-affected Darfuris to gain access to and protect community water resources, or helping Congolese refugees heal and recover from the terrible abuse and hardship they've endured during war - ARC reached more than 2 million people in 2009 with life-saving and life-changing support.

Chief Executive Profile:
Wordsworth joined the American Refugee Committee in 2009, after 12 years with the Christian Children’s Fund (CCF), where he most recently served as Vice President of the Asia Region, based in Thailand. During his tenure, he built the foundation of CCF’s emergency response programs in East Timor, Sierra Leone, Gujarat, Afghanistan, and Northern Uganda.
Prior to joining the American Refugee Committee, Wordsworth led a team engaged in for-profit business start-ups in China. He has also lived and worked with the urban poor in Australia and Hong Kong.
Over the last 15 years, Wordsworth has lived in China, India, Vietnam, and Thailand. He has written numerous publications on children and poverty.

Program Description:
Each year ARC serves nearly 3 million refugees and displaced people in Africa and Asia. We work with our constituents to provide clean water, sanitation, shelter, health care, gender-based violence prevention services, microenterprise development, disease prevention services, education, legal services, counseling and repatriation assistance. ARC has 2,300 employees, 95% of whom are hired locally.
Program Long-Term Success:
ARC provided 450,000 people in Darfur with health clinics, wells and water yards, latrines, schools. ARC was the only aid agency offering farming assistance and operating supplemental nutrition centers outside refugee camps in South Darfur this year.
