Mission Statement

Our mission is to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger. Feeding America distributes food and grocery products through a nationwide certified member network, increases public awareness of domestic hunger and advocates for public policies that benefit America's hungry.

Vicki B. Escarra became President and Chief Executive Officer of America?s Second Harvest ? The Nation?s Food Bank Network on March 1, 2006. As leader of the nation?s largest hunger-relief organization, Escarra has sought to increase the amount of food that is available to hungry people by enhancing relationships with corporate America, government partners and individuals. In her time as President and CEO, Escarra has launched the development of a new strategic plan, brought new corporate partners into the organization and heightened the visibility of the organization with hunger-relief features in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, the NBC Nightly News and other publications and programs. Escarra is a 30-year veteran of Delta Air Lines, most recently serving as Executive Vice President, Chief Customer Service Officer. In that role, Escarra was responsible for corporate customer service strategy, leading a work force of 52,000. While Chief Marketing Officer, Escarra expanded Delta?s revenue by establishing unique agreements with organizational partners, restructured the customer loyalty program to increase customer satisfaction and created a consumer research department to analyze brand positioning for organizational advancement. She was responsible for the first global redesign and reengineering of Delta?s flight schedule following the events of September 11, 2001. Escarra served as Chairman of the Board of the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau from 2004 to 2006. As Chairman she led a diverse team, which helped bring more revenue to the area through business and tourism. She also served as the Chairman of the Brand Atlanta Marketing Campaign for Mayor Shirley Franklin in 2005. She serves on the boards of Health Net, Inc., A.G. Edwards, Inc., The Congressional Hunger Center and The Committee of 200. The Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum presented Escarra with the National Aviation and Space Exploration Wall of Honor certificate in 2000. She has received numerous other awards. A native of Decatur, Georgia, Escarra holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Georgia State University. She has completed Columbia University's Executive Management Program and Harvard University?s Executive Leadership Program

Program Description:

There are children in America that rely on resources such as free or reduced-priced school lunch, during the school year. 

The BackPack Program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.
