We emphasize the inclusion of girls and women in the educational opportunities we support. We work with Sudanese community leaders with shared values regarding the critical importance of education as the source of sustainability, prosperity, health and autonomy.
We work in partnership with community leaders to establish a sustainable model through Leadership Development: Community, Girls and Teachers. We are dedicated to cooperation among people; building trust through relationship; integrity, transparency, respect and commitment to the mutual goals of each community school we work with.

Impact Statement
Since our beginning in the Fall of 2005 we have been able to support three communities in helping build three primary and one secondary school in South Sudan. Jonglei Hope Secondary Academy, Maar has opened a secondary school with 100 students, the community of Konbeek has opened an all girls boarding school with 450 students and Pagook Primary is completing the last of eight classrooms which is already operating with 350 students. Gammeth Primary, 350 students is being provided with a much needed borehole this winter 2012. Since 2006 we have built 16 classrooms, 3 boreholes to provide clean water, provided 6 commercial grinding mills to emancipate girls to go to school and 10 sewing machines for school uniforms We have also conducted teacher and adult education workshops in the communities of Maar, Konbeek and Gammeth. In 2012 we expect to build 4 additional classrooms in Pagook, 1 borehole in Gammeth, deliver bunk beds for 104 girls, 104 orphan uniforms and school fees to Konbeek. We now have a full time South Sudan Program Director who over sees, monitors and assists and reports all progress of our projects.

People respond to the hope that education creates for a future that is bright and full of possibilities. All of us working with Project Education Sudan have been truly blessed through the love and friendships we have made in southern Sudan.

Program Description:
Project Education Sudan has provided more than $304,000 to assist in construction projects, educational expenses and training in rural communities in southern Sudan.
Program Long-Term Success:
Our long-term success is dependent on the relationships and trust we build with community leaders in the rural communities that we serve in southern Sudan. It is the community commitment to sustainability, education as the hope for the future and their belief that they can determine their own destiny with a hand up from others like Project Education Sudan.
Program Short-Term Success:
Our short-term success is often dependent on our ability to problem solve in creative ways while staying focused on the long-term goals of the communities we serve. Southern Sudan is one of the most challenging places to live in the world. Our projects are often dependent on the weather, friends in southern Sudan, the goodwill of the Sudanese people and a little luck. We learn as we go and over time get better at finding ways to accomplish our goals and complete our projects.
Program Success Monitored by:
We use the UNICEF accountability model for monitoring the successful completion of our projects. Accountability means obtaining written agreements with community organizations and village elders, confirmation of delivery of goods and materials, verification of receipts, annual inspections, quarterly reports from field personnel, photographs of project progress and completion.
Program Success Examples:
Our greatest success was the opening of Ayak Anguei Girls School in 2008. Today there are 600 girls in the primary education programs at the school. Ayak Anguei Girls School has become the premier girls boarding school in the Bor area of Jonglei State. We are also proud of the strong community support that we have received from Pagook which has resulted in the construction of two classrooms for the secondary school in just over 5 months, on time and on budget. We expect progress in Pagook to continue in 2010.
Funding Needs
We can do so much more with adequate funding. As we look to 2012 our needs include funding for a full-time South Sudan Program Director ($25,000US); funding for 1 8 room dormitory in Konbeek, ($70,000); funding for 4 classrooms in Pagook ($35,000); funding for kitchen/dining facilities in Konbek ($35,000) and Pagook ( $35,000) These projects and continued funding for our South Sudan Program Director would make 2012 a truly successful year.
Volunteer Needs
We are blessed to have a wonderful base of volunteers in the US who focus on raising funds for schools and awareness about the challenges of education in southern Sudan. We are always looking for individuals in communities around the US who like us want to make a difference in South Sudan. We have had success with middle and high schools, colleges and universities and churches and religious organizations around the US who have worked with us to fund projects in South Sudan.
Request for In-Kind Contributions
Our greatest in-kind need in the US is for office space. In South Sudan it is for the purchase of a truck to transport materials to school sites and communities we serve. Locally we are always looking for in-kind contributions for our fundraising events, supplies, office equipment and food and beverages for our events.
