Impact Statement
When the doors of Judson Center opened in 1924, no one could have imagined the impact the agency would have on thousands of lives over the many decades to come. The center began as a children's home with a single matron overseeing the emotional, physical and spiritual growth of just a few children. Since then, the agency has evolved into a comprehensive, multifaceted, community based human service center - one that has been nationally recognized for fostering independence through innovative programs, and for empowering children of all ages and their families to live the best lives possible.

Program Description:
Judson Center Autism Connections offers a point of entry to Autism resources, information, and referral in Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties. Additionally, Autism Connections offers a wide range of educational, therapeutic and support services designed to assist individuals with Autism, their families and their communities. Therapies and skills training promote independence and maximize potential for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum disorders. Judson Center specializes in providing Family Resource and Referral plans, which provide extensive information, resources, and referrals for Autism services based on the family need; as well as social skills development.
Family Preservation Programs provide services such as therapy, parenting skills education, referral to needed resources, advocacy with community and school systems and coordination of multiple service providers, for families and individuals. The goal of Family Preservation is to prevent removal of a child who is at risk of abuse or neglect, or to reunite a child who has been temporarily living outside of his/her biological home in foster care, residential, or juvenile justice placement. This goal is achieved by eliminating risks that could result, or resulted in, separation/removal and providing supports that help the family establish and/or maintain independence, safety and self-sufficiency.
Judson Center’s Foster Care program provides foster home placements for neglected and/or abused children who are 0 to 17 years of age. If these youth are not able to be reunited with their biological parents, Judson Center provides adoption services to locate a permanent home for the child(ren) in care. These services are provided in Macomb, Oakland, Livingston, Washtenaw, Genesee, and Wayne Counties. The L.I.F.E. program is a component of the foster care program that places medically fragile and developmentally disabled children (ages 0 - 17 years) with foster parents.
The goal of the Supported Employment Program is to help adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges obtain and maintain jobs in the community. The program provides services such as: vocational and situational assessments to determine consumer job interest and training needs, job searching and development services, job placement, on-the-job skills training and education. For those not choosing employment, there is an opportunity for volunteer and senior activities. Judson Center serves approximately 246 consumers each year.
Judson Center provides community based living service for six group homes for adults with developmental disabilities in Troy, Lathrup Village, West Bloomfield, and Southfield. These homes are owned by Judson Center and currently have the capacity to serve six consumers each. In addition to being responsible for the daily care of each consumer, Judson Center provides individualized services such as social skills, household skill building, recreational skill building, and any other services identified in the person centered plan of the individual.
The Supported Independent Living Program provides individual services similar to those offered in the group homes within a consumer’s own apartment or in his/her family home. The goal of this program is to provide the supports necessary for each consumer to remain as independent as possible. Judson Center provides this service in Oakland County.
