Program Description:
The grant for elementary school enrichment coordinators provides funding to secure the staffing necessary for implementation of enrichment programming across all elementary schools. Enrichment planning and coordination will be characterized by embedded programming vetted by enrichment coordinators and supported by school faculty members. Scheduling of enrichment activities will be balanced across grade levels, developmentally appropriate, and accessible by all students.
Program Long-Term Success:
Enrichment facilitators will be valued by the school district as an integral part of the curriculum team. Teachers and principals will rely upon them to recommend and implement curriculum related programs in every elementary school.
Program Short-Term Success:
Enrichment facilitators will work in every school, every week, expanding enrichment opportunities to students. They will forge improved relationships with staff as well as the school PTO.

Program Description:
Great Idea grants are made to individual/teams of teachers for innovative and creative ideas to supplement classroom teaching. Grants range from $500 - $1,000. Ann Arbor Public Schools staff can apply annually. More than $300,000 has been awarded since the programs inception.
Program Long-Term Success:
These grants are intended to inspire students and staff. Long-term success of the program, as a whole, is assessed by the number of grants that are applied for and implemented annually.
Program Short-Term Success:
100% of funds awarded are used for the grant proposals approved by AAPSEF.
Program Success Monitored by:
Everyone receiving a Teacher Grant from the Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation is required to complete an end of year report assessing goals to outcomes. This is monitored by a volunteer committee.

Environmental Science Program Support

Program Description:
The Ann Arbor Public Schools has a long history of environmental science programs. The philosophy of the AAPS Environmental Education Program is to support and enhance the curriculum with outdoor education experiences stressing knowledge, characteristics, interrelationships and uses of natural resources.
Specifically, AAPSEF funds are for the following
programs: Kensington Metropark (1st
grade, $16,286), and 3rd grade Planetarium visits ($6,846). Total student participation in these programs is approximately 2,500 students.

Field trips funded through this grant were developed to be aligned with the curriculum at appropriate grade levels. In the short term, students have hands on experiences in the area of science being studied.

Air Tracks for Physics in every high school

Program Description:
With significant funding support from IMRA, America, scientific equipment for physics experiments was added to or upgraded in every high school. AAPS students must take physics or chemistry to graduate. Support for this program is consistent with the AAPS mission that ensures learning be curiosity driven, student directed, teacher inspired and that the curriculum be challenging and provocative.

PLAN tests for all 10th Graders

Program Description:
The PLAN tests, as part of ACT's Educational Planning and Assessment System, provide information for students and classroom teachers about students strengths and weaknesses in English, math, reading and science. Data is used to assist with educational planning and support for the high school years as well as post-secondary planning.
Program Long-Term Success:
Baseline data will be identified and a comparison done with student achievement on the ACT test. This data analysis will be conducted by staff in the Ann Arbor Public Schools and shared with AAPSEF in aggregate form.
Program Short-Term Success:
AAPS teachers and counselors will use data for each student to assist with individual student learning plans - course selection, increase college readiness and promotion of educational and career planning.
Program Success Monitored by:
Ann Arbor Public Schools staff - data department, guidance counselors and ultimately the assistant superintendent for instruction.
