Impact Statement
Leonardo Academy has been deeply involved in the development of LEED since we joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1999. We have been particularly involved in the development of the USGBC’s LEED-EB Rating System. Leonardo Academy has conducted LEED-EB assessments on over 84 buildings representing over 30 million square feet of building space. This includes several building uses (space types); single and multi-tenant office buildings, manufacturing, call centers, service centers, libraries and museums. We have consulted on LEED implementation and certification for 34 projects representing over 21 million square feet of building space.
Leonardo Academy is an accredited Education Provider for the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and USGBC, and has initiated web-based sustainability training to deliver both live and on-demand webinars on a wide range of sustainability topics.
Leonardo Academy helps organizations to quantify emissions that affect climate change and health. Examples include Milliken, Apogee and the International Monetary Fund.
Leonardo Academy is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited standards developer since 2006. Standards currently under development are the Emissions Standard that covers all types of emissions that affect both the climate and human health and recognizes the value of preserving existing forest and grasslands that hold carbon. This standard has gone out for public comment and is currently being considered by ANSI for promulgation as an ANSI standard. The Sustainable Gaming Standard, which addresses the sustainability of slot machines, has also has gone out for public comment and is currently being considered by ANSI for promulgation as an ANSI standard. The National Sustainable Agriculture Standard has made great progress and is scheduled to be released for public comment the summer of 2012.
Events certified under Leonardo Academy’s Cleaner and Greener® Program help them become more sustainable. Examples include USGBC’s Greenbuild, GSA Training and Gov Energy.

Played a key role in the development of the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED for existing building rating system. Leonardo Academy President was chair of the LEED-EB committee from 2001-2005 while LEED-EB was being developed. Leonardo Academy ran LEED-EB pilot for USGBC and did all LEED-EB certificaton reviws from 2002-Fall 2007. This rating system is tranforming the existing building stock. Supported overall LEED program: Leonardo Academy President was member of USGBC LEED steering committee from committee from 2001-2005 helping to guide LEED development during that critical period.
