Program Short-Term Success:
Our YMCA provides high quality child care by providing comprehensive activities for preschool and school age children drawing on diverse members of the community. We provide options to serve a wide range of family scheduling needs.
Woven into the fabric of the YMCA mission is a commitment to strengthening families. YMCA childcare programs relieve the burden of balancing work and family and make it possible for parents of children in our care to remain gainfully employed, knowing that their children are thriving in a safe, developmentally sound environment.
The YMCA provides tuition assistance for child care services. Over $39,000 was awarded to families to defray their fees this year. We also provide a variety of activities that emphasize parent education and help parents learn more about how to raise healthy, happy children who develop self-esteem and moral and ethical values. Over 200 families were served in childcare programs in 2009.

Children Only (5 - 14 years)
Program Description:
A free, supervised, drop-in youth center where kids in grades 2nd - 9th can go hang out, relax, play games and more. Youth sport programs include: basketball, judo, karate, soccer, swim team and t-ball. Free tutoring center and middle school programs.
Program Long-Term Success:
The youth center is a room that gets filled with between 30 – 65 youth after school each day. Most of the youth take a bus from school which drops them off right here at the YMCA. Some of the youth stay here until the center closes at 8:30pm - most do not bring a snack or dinner. Many of the youth we see are from low-income families and are not involved in other extra-curricular activities.
One of the primary objectives of the youth center is to provide a safe environment for youth to hangout and have fun with friends. The center is a supervised, drop-in center; we have some special events/tournaments and projects, but do not have daily structured programs. It is supervised by a YMCA staff person who is certified in “Serve Safe” and prepares an afterschool snack. In conjunction with the youth center, we offer a free tutoring program using community volunteers as tutors. Youth are able to ride the bus over to the Y afterschool, have a snack, head to the tutoring center to get their homework done and then hangout in the youth center with their friends until their parents pick them up.
