Program Description:
Gateway Greening’s Community Garden program supports community gardens and urban greening projects that improve the appearance of neighborhoods, inspire, educate, and reflect the pride of the participants — often becoming community focal points and catalysts for neighborhood improvement.
Our program’s mission is to contribute to neighborhood vitality and stability through community food projects, wellness programs, and civic greening. We accomplish this by forming alliances with neighborhood groups to provide resources for citizen managed open spaces that encourage healthier, safer and more enriched lives.
The purpose of our Community Garden program is to support neighborhood groups committed to creating successful food-producing gardens or urban greening projects over the long-term and provide the resources and knowledge that enable them to develop food producing gardens and landscaped areas on public land.
We currently support over 200 community and youth gardens and urban greening projects and each year award more community gardening and urban greening projects. We have many resources available if you are interested in starting a community garden or to find a community garden nearest you to join.
