Mission Statement
Our Mission
MIKE Program empowers youth to be ambassadors of health in service to their diverse communities through mentorship, partnership, and the promotion of healthy kidneys. MIKE Program addresses the root causes of chronic disease such as obesity, associated diabetes, and cardiovascular disease as well as other precursors of chronic disease in order to prevent kidney disease.
Using a curriculum we have developed to meet national and Oregon state standards of adolescent health education. We promote health-enhancing behaviors and discourage risky behavior by layering health professional students and other adults into a mentoring relationship with youth groups to guide, educate, and inspire youth through project based service learning. Simultaneously we develop the service skills of today's health care professional students. MIKE Program works to close the gap in health care need and health care delivery.
