Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation supports the richness and diversity of the region’s arts resources and promotes wider access to the art and artists of the region, nation and world.
Since its inception 30 years ago, MAAF has been able to steadily increase its leadership and support for artists and arts organizations in the mid-Atlantic region and beyond. During fiscal year 2009, MAAF awarded grants of over 3 million dollars that benefited 708,377 people and supported 772 performances and 1,086 residency activities. Artists participating in residencies, spent over 549 days in the community leading master classes, creating new art and meeting with students and residents of all ages and backgrounds.
Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation ("MAAF") advances arts programming through specialized activities for the following select program areas: Presenting, Touring, and Exhibiting; Artist Support, Projects and Residencies; and Knowledge Building. Each of these areas is designed to support excellence; enhance access to the arts of the region, nation, and world; and broaden the reach of artists and arts organizations.
A private, non-profit organization, MAAF was created in 1979 by collaborating State Arts Agencies (SAA) to assist in the development and coordination of interstate arts programming. The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors which is composed of SAA executive directors/designees and up to 12 At-large members. MAAF employs 19 full time staff and utilizes 20 volunteers on a regular basis. Since its inception, MAAF has provided millions of dollars to support programs that reach across and beyond the political borders of its member states, which include Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, the US Virgin Islands, Virginia, and West Virginia.
