Mission Statement
Family and Home Network helps families spend generous amounts of time together. We focus on children's needs for warm, nurturing relationships with their parents--and on parents' experiences and feelings as they take the time to meet their children's needs.
We offer affirmation, information and advocacy to parents who forgo or cut back on paid employment in order to care for their children (as well as those who would like to spend more time with their children). We educate the general public and policy makers about the benefits of parents and children being emotionally engaged and spending generous amounts of time together. We advocate for inclusive family policies which support parents regardless of their income-earning and caregiving choices.

Chief Executive
Ms. Catherine H Myers
Chief Executive Profile:
Catherine Myers has served FAHN in many ways since she began volunteering in 1985, when her children were ages three and five. In recent years, Cathy and her husband have happily welcomed their daughter-in-law and son-in-law to their family. And they are delighted to have two grandsons, who provide daily inspiration to continue FAHN’s work. Cathy is enrolled in college part-time working on a Bachelor of Individualized Studies degree in Human Development and Parenting. She finds abundant scholarly research affirming the importance of parenting and the effectiveness of support for new parents, and she appreciates the way her studies, her life and her work with FAHN weave together.
CEO/Executive Director Statement:
For over two decades, I've been involved in Family and Home Network's efforts--often, as today, as a volunteer due to the constraints of our finances. I am dedicated to this organization because its independent, grassroots work is vital. In recent years I've been completing my Bachelor of Individualized Studies degree in Human Development, Parenting and Policy. My studies and my work with FAHN are woven together, informing each other. Recent scientific research in neuroscience, psychology and sociology reinforces my belief in the critical importance of FAHN's work. My work with FAHN has helped me learn, it helps me think critically about the contradictions and inconsistencies in academic research. FAHN's work is grounded in the real life experiences of tens of thousands of parents, who have generously shared their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with us, and through FAHN--with each other.

Program Description:
The majority of FAHN's efforts are devoted to offering affirmation, information, and advocacy to parents through our website and outreach efforts. Our advertisement-free website provides a refuge for parents, a place to connect with others, to reflect, to learn, to find mentors and be mentors, to recharge. We seek information about parents who forgo or cut back on paid employment to nurture their families, and we analyze information provided by other organizations.
In addition, we work to educate the public, members of the media, and policymakers about families who care for their own children and about the needs of children of all ages. Our staff and volunteers have spoken at Congressional hearings and at policy conferences, as well as in thousands of media interviews. The issues we address include tax policy, child care subsidies, social security reforms and other family policies. We respond to requests for information from the public, news media, researchers, policy makers and others.
Program Long-Term Success:
Since 1984, Family and Home Network has offered affirmation, information and advocacy to parents. For two decades we published our monthly award-winning, advertisement-free monthly journal Welcome Home. Now we're using the internet and our new website, with social networking features, to reach parents.
Program Short-Term Success:
Our new website was built by volunteers, at no cost to the organization. We're doing so much with almost no financial resources. FAHN could do so much more if we had some funding; we'll be working on building our donor base and look forward to tackling our long list of projects and being able to more effectively promote our Campaign for Inclusive Family Policies.
