Impact Statement
In 1996, the first year that scholarships were awarded, 25 deserving students were recognized as scholars. Through the generosity of our donors and partners, we are now able to award nearly 600 scholarships annually. In total, we have awarded over 4,800 scholarships across the country. Over 1,000 Carson Scholars have been recognized for their academic and humanitarian achievements in multiple years. Our scholars come from all across the country, and our award winners currently represent 45 states and Washington, DC. Carson Scholarship winners have attended 300 colleges and universities, and have received over $2 million in scholarship funds to help finance their education.
The Ben Carson Reading Project has enjoyed similar success. Through partnerships with individuals and corporations, over $800,000 has been invested into creating and maintaining Ben Carson Reading Rooms. Currently, 70 Reading Rooms have been established in schools across the country. 85% of Ben Carson Reading Rooms serve students in Title I schools.

Chief Executive
Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr.
Term:
Since
May
1994
Chief Executive Profile:
Co-founder of the Carson Scholars Fund and Professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
CEO/Executive Director Statement:
I finally realized that it was fun to learn; I excelled, and later received scholarships to college and medical school. Today, I think of my youth and cannot believe I am chief of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutes. I am living proof that even those who seem with hope have the potential to do anything they want. That's why my wife, Candy, and I formed the Carson Scholars Fund in 1994. We wanted to provide that important spark.
