Chief Executive
Mr. Peter O'Driscoll
Term:
Since
May
2006
Chief Executive Profile:
Peter, who took over as Executive Director in May 2006, is a graduate of Harvard College, and holds a masters degree in economic development from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. Prior to joining ActionAid, Peter served as the founder and Coordinator of the Agribusiness Accountability Initiative at Center of Concern. The initiative, which is a global network of farm, labor, environment, consumer, church and development organizations, seeks solutions to problems created by corporate monopoly power in the food system. In so doing, it brings experts and social movements together to collaborate on research, advocacy, public education and campaigns designed to build a more equitable and sustainable food system. From 1997-2000, Peter was Latin America Director for Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, an international association of social entrepreneurs. In that capacity, he managed a staff of 25 in 12 countries, traveling the continent to interview emerging leaders with creative ideas for positive social change. Peter also worked in El Salvador for seven years with the Jesuit Refugee Service, first as a volunteer resettlement worker in a refugee camp and a rural village during that country's civil war, then as project coordinator and national director. Peter first became involved in social change work through a series of volunteer and paid positions with youth service organizations in New York City, during and after his college years and again upon his return from El Salvador.
